And who is not clueless on what military lives are like? The guy who wrote that article?

I was once told that saluting an officer at that location could get me court-martialed because it would identify that officer to an enemy.

It's an interesting how people who oppose the current occupant of the White House take pleasure in juxtaposing "politicians" with REAL heroes in UNIFORM.
They obviously haven't spent much time in the military.
With a few exceptions, most of the career people I served under were anything but mental giants.
In fact some where absolute dumbbells but that wasn't a problem because they always had someone else telling them what to do.

Among the most famous of these ploys were the vicious attacks on Harry Truman (that POLITICIAN) when he fired Douglas McArthur ( a real HERO) for insubordination in Korea. The repubs never let that one go. Even Reagan liked to savor it.
Of course, it was nonsense. Whatever the wisdom of his policy or lack it, it was Truman's call, not McArthur's as to whether we should pursue the Chinese into whatever territory that led us.
That's just the way it is here.

PS... Ike agreed with Truman.. so which HERO should we have followed?

Like it or not, guys and gals, the majority of the people who cast votes in the US elected Barack Obama as Commander in Chief.
He, and only he, gets to decide whether he'll return a salute or how he'll return it.
So, get over it.
He's the boss, and that Marine has sworn to do what he says, not the other way around.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
