It shows their different sides - they're easy-going regular guys who like to have a good time and enjoy their hobbies away from work, and deadly serious about their craft. It also shows the loyalty of their fans. There are people who love the Stones or Pink Floyd or the Beatles, but Rush's fan relationship is truly unique. I read somewhere that they had great difficulty producing the sound for the Rush in Rio concert in 2003, because the fans sang along to every track so loudly the entire night.
In 1994 they did a track called "Everyday Glory" that got little attention, though I always liked the song. I recently discovered that someone made a great still-picture video for it:
