Did you have a restore point? This is always what Microsoft support recommends at first. If yes, you can go back to that and try again.

One thing I observed. I am not sure if this is OS specific. Once I restarted, I ended up with a new HomeGroup icon on the desktop. There was no way to remove it. I restarted and it was gone.
