I have developed a Family History program using FoxPro 2.6 for DOS which produces custom genealogy reports. These reports are not simply lists of data extracted from files (although this option is available) but shows the family relationships between people. This means that the completed report is built up from the data in the file based on the selected person for the chart. For this reason I have not been able to use the Report Generator. The data is output to printers using non-proportional fonts with spaces being used as method of positioning the data on the page.

I now want to move to Visual FoxPro and use Windows so that I do not have to worry about setting up printer drivers, etc. My problem is, how do I control the fonts for the printer and how do I specify the variable print location on the page.

One solution which I had considered, was to output the reports to a database with, say, a single 132 byte field and just print from this file. I assume I can control the font when I print the database using the Report Generator, but how then can I control the location on the printline? For example line 1 may need to start at the left margin, line 2 offset to the right 1", line 3 offset 2", line 4 offset 2", line 5 offset 4". Can I imbed a printer tab character in the single 132 byte field?

Any thoughts on solutions to this problem would be most appreciated.
