I'll say this, if any tech company (as a sponsor, organizer) did something like that at any event/brand I was part of (and I do about 25-30 total events a year), I either wouldn't participate with them again or would tell the organizers they need to issue an apology/swift public censure/etc.
It's impossible to prevent that from happening 100% of the time, but everyone else associated with the activity can certainly come down like the proverbial "wrath of god" and make the idiots wish they'd used their brains to begin with.
