>>That, along with the fact that the family members of these people haven't gotten sick, really should be tamping down all the worry. Instead, hysterical media and opportunistic politicians continue to rev it up.

In fairness, I get the feeling that Kaci is milking this. I see she used to or still does work for CDC: this, combined with her epidemiologist role, makes we wonder whether she actually "treated" patients or was there to assist with collation of data and epidemiology. If she was not actively treating patients- then saying so could end the drama now. Of course it is possible that "epidemiologist" is a label used by a journalist who thinks it means a caregiver who specializes in epidemics, and in fact she was a practicing nurse. In which case, when did she last come into contact with an infected patient? My understanding is that it takes some days to get out of that part of Africa - it took 50 hours even to evacuate a very sick infected expat- and when she arrived in the US she complained of days of travel with no sleep. So when did she last work with infected patients? The best I can find is "earlier this month" - but in that case the quarantine period already could be over. I would have thought that such data would be of significant concern to those arguing one way and the other, but not a word. The other issue is the hundreds of people on the same plane as Kaci into the US- why are they not also quarantined since she also must have been a risk on the flight if she is a risk now- or does the risk only manifest once you arrive in the States? ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
