I still recommend that you try to find out WHY your system seems to randomly hang. Did you read Doug Hennig's papers?

One cause can be anti virus scanning, make sure that the relevant file extensions are excluded.

Secondly, make sure that your VFP path doesn't contain any nonexistent entries, that can really make VFP go into a near halt.

Third, make sure to use a local folder for temp files.

And last, make sure that CPDBF() for each and every table matches CPCURRENT(). If not, Rushmore won't kick in.
