Knowing my brother he was probably travelling quite rapidly. I think it was a downhill section. Like you I'm not big fan of serious mountain biking. A real joy is a newly resurfaced road. They recently did a stretch of Green Lanes (ironic name for a road in london) and it was so lovely I almost wanted to lie on it and stroke it. :-)
