I feel bad for them. I love Halloween and having the kids come up to get their treats, but it's always so sad that they have to wear a coat over their spiderman or princess costume.

I used to try to design my kids' costumes around sweatsuits. Since I refused to buy packaged costumes, we were always building from the materials at hand (though I didn't object to buying a few "set pieces," like a clown wig or a witch's hat). So whenever possible, the base of the costume was a sweatsuit. When that didn't make sense, we'd aim for having sweats under the real costume. More often than not, that meant we could dispense with coats.
