Certain things you might want to check -- Did you extract the contents of the ZIP file, or are you simply opening a "compressed folder" (which is what it shows up as in Windows if you don't have a program specifically installed to handle ZIP files).
Also did you make sure you downloaded the right version of the driver (i.e. Server 2008 IIRC is 32-bit, while 2008 R2 is 64-bit only -- so you need to make sure you downloaded the correct)
When trying to install the print driver, were you doing this from the console directly, or were you doing this through a remote desktop? If doing this through a remote desktop, check to make sure you weren't getting local drive and remote drive confused.

Instructions found on the Brother website:
Notes:
•If you don't know which version of Windows Vista®/ Windows Server® 2008 you are using, 32 bit or 64 bit, please check by following the steps below:
Click on "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "System and Maintenance" -> "System" -> Check it at "System type" section.
•The instructions may vary depending on the Windows Vista®/ Windows Server® 2008 version.
•By installing this driver, the printer icon named "Brother xxxxxx Printer" or "Brother xxxxxx series" will be added in the "Printers" section.
•You must be logged on as an Administrator.
•If the "User Account Control" prompt is displayed, click "Continue".
•If the "Windows Security" alert prompt is displayed, click "Install this driver software anyway.".

>I have a direct connect firewall to firewall VPN connection. I can ping the IP but not the printer name. There is no install program for 2008, just a zip file with all the drivers. The docs say to add the printer from the control panel but there is no way to add by IP address which I have done using windows 7. It looks like a print server needs to be running to add a printer that way so I will contact the server admin and see if he can set that up.

>>If you try PINGing the printer from the server, do you get a response? If not what if you hook up a workstation from that network connection (the one used by server) and PINGing, do you get a response? You can try PINGing the printer from the workstation (or notebook) to see if you get a response. If you get a response, then there might be something about the server (perhaps insufficient network privileges, or perhaps you need to unlock ports in the firewall).

>>When running the installer on the server, did you try right-clicking on the installer and select "Run as Administrator"?

>>>It is a network connected printer. No print server just TCPIP port. The remote computer used to be a windows 7 64Bit and report printing worked fine. But I was able to install the windows 7 driver using an exe. It seems the driver for 2008 has to installed through windows. The printer is a Brother MFC-8460N.

>>>Thanks.

>>>>>I have been trying to setup remote printing from my win 7 64bit computer from a win 2008 RT server. The problem I am having is I can't seem to be able to install the printer drivers (no printer drivers installed) I need on the server. The server seems to want to connect to a printer which it can't. Tried manually go through the setup process but it won't show the INF file and I have confirmed that the INF file is there and the Brother website says this is the correct driver for 2008 RT.

If it is connected to a computer, which computer is it connected to? If network, is the printer and server connected up on the same LAN w/o having a router/bridge of some sort between the two?
