That's how democracy works. Try sitting in on a few school board meetings in a small US town and you'll see people who would make this fella look semi-normal.
Actually, Colbert isn't doing anyone a favor by calling attention to nuts like this. There are huge issues - especially the increasing concentration of wealth- that won't get laughs and while we're laughing no one is addressing them.
