Open Source means open source. The live and in-development source code is on GitHub and community contributions are accepted. You can fork the code and the license is pretty much an unlimited license for use in all scenarios.

IOW, Microosoft is at long last coming around and doing the right thing. For the ASP.NET team who've had the ASP.NET framework stacks on Open Source for years this has already reaped big benefits in terms of community participation and the ability to provide new functionlity much more quickly than than the 18 month upgrade cycles of the past.

Lots of cynics here I know, but this is a very positive thing for all involved and a necessary thing in order for Microsoft to remain relevant, given that most other development platforms these days are cross-platform and free.I think the major exception now actually is Java which is strangled by Oracle.
