I actually think that businesses (at least profitable ones) shouldn't be allowed to pay full-time employees so little that they qualify for government assistance, except in special cases (such as, say, employing people with mental disabilities). When they do, essentially, the taxpayers are contributing to their profits. Think I heard that Walmart had $40B in profit last year, and that paying a living wage would cut that in half. Seems like $20B ought to be enough in profits.
Who is it that is going to decide how much profit is enough? The government? What is next? Is the government then going to decide when you have earned enough money and then take the excess away from you (above how much they already take in taxes)?
