>Yep. When I originally saw $1000 and thought it wasn't too horrible - sure I'd love it to be $300-$400, but even around $1000-$1200 it wasn't bad. Then I saw per platform / per year and suddenly it's not really in the running anymore (unless, like you said, you had a specific customer who would cover the license). Kind of disappointing.
Given how much dev tools cost today in general (free or relatively cheap) and even Visual Studio mid-skews are only in the $500 range (and now also free) it seems preposterous to charge $1000 for a dev tool and then to make it per dev platform. I can't justify that. Given the market statistics of how little money there is in apps as a money maker that only makes the prospect worse.
I'm sure they're making out like bandits for corporate licensing, but I think it pretty much amounts to highway robbery. And very disappointing knowing the OSS and Mono roots.
I'd wager that if they did drop the price to aroun $500 for all platforms they would make just as much money and make up the difference in volume. At this point this is a platform of last resort for me.

>>>Thanks Rick. I had a feeling I should have said '
looks very interesting' rather then 'looks
very interesting'.

>>>At first glance $1k/pa for Xamarin didn't look too bad - then I noticed it was 'per platform' :-{
>>
>>And that's per year, per platform, per developer. It's a subscription and you can't use after the year is up...
>>Insane that people go for this... It maybe an awesome tool but at those prices there's no way unless I have a specific project that requires it and they are paying for the license.
