Mi experience is closer to Metin's than yours. We have several (at least 10, 2 more planned) programs that retrieve information from different systems that run 24/7 since long I started working here (and I started more than 15 years ago), we change the programs (from FoxPlus to VFP9, from DOS to Windows 7 and from Novell to MS Server 2012) but the basics are the same, the hardware changed, I do not even know how many different devices are between the source and one of those 10 computers (pure serial, usb 2 serial, network 2 serial) and the only serious problem we had was about 3-4 months ago where the data came corrupted, of course the owners of the "master" systems were first blaming our VFP program, then another computer started having issues, so they started blaming our settings, which had not being changed, finally when the third computer started having troubles, they finally got around to check only to found out that the problem was that they were splitting the cables to feed another system and they were introducing "noise", of course they never said in the beginning that they were splitting cables, it was easier for them to waste our time chasing a phantom fox pro issue... Good times, good times.
