Stupid question -- did it make a difference if the computers in question were running 8.1 or 8.1 Pro?
I do recall back when Vista was released, there were problems that would crop up if you used the default power profile -- you needed to make sure that the network interface wasn't put on standby during idle (otherwise you ended up with a periodic disconnect from the network).
