While in the US, we moved from Charlottesville (where you can hear hills rolling) to the coast - and bought bikes within a couple of months. However, there was nothing to ride to, unless you count ride for ride's sake. Upon returning home, bought bikes within two weeks, and lived happily for ten months without a car. Then had to buy one because we bought a garden 17km away - a tad far for regular cycling, specially if one intends to do some work there. I really want to get back to my bicycling habits - I used to ride it to work regularly for 15 years, sun rain or snow, but I'm working from home. And if there's a reason for me to go somewhere, it usually involves ferrying something too big to be put on a bike, or something liquid in a pot (i.e. lunch for dad :), so it seems it's car every time I leave the house.

Still doesn't explain the difference between old and "old", on which I'm still waiting for Mike to respond :).
