>>As for sloppiness with one's language, everyone can just check their own for words lost and replaced with english (I've heard "wir brauchen mehr Jobs" and, in dubbed Stargate, "herr Major, da ist ein Missile durch dem Stargate gekommen" - with Major pronounced english)(pardon my germisch, I never get the genders and articles right). And at the source, check The grand art of spell.

I love/hate engrbian as well. And I wrote an extensive series of articles, on my neighbor's blog, as a course in bad translation done right. It's simple: since an english word has an average of six to ten meanings, take the wrongest one and use it as translation. Which does happen in real life: there's some guy in some government agency in Montenegro who is a deputy manager of something. On his facebook page he announces himself as "replacement for manager"... but that's an example in the opposite direction. Illustrative, still, as the engrbians speak mediocre english but their serbian is close to a catastrophe. They don't have the vocabulary - they say "juče uveče" (yesterday in the evening) instead of "sinoć" (last night), they put on their socks using a the same verb as for donning clothes - you may do that in real life, but only one sock will fit over your head, and that's when you're going to the bank.

Speaking of the latter, is the "First bank of Ohio" a left or right bank?
