>>A good example of how "medical arts" practitioners - be it witch doctors, shamans or whatever-ologists can obfuscate something as simple as the application of a band aid or the clipping of toenails.
>>In one paragraph, you've created a murky black hole that can justify almost anything.

The example I gave was cancer, currently one of the leading causes of mortality. You may prefer your toenail clipping non-example but it sounds like a rort and isn't very interesting or representative of most aspects of healthcare. Not least because human beings are not sacks of wheat whose quality is specified in advance and actually each sack likes to think it is receiving special treatment and has quite a lot of say over what happens to it. IOW there's little similarity with the sorts of industry in which you have quite a lot of say over variance and quality, or are providing a narrow service like nail-clipping.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
