Make sure that the extensions for typical data files ( *.DBF, *.FPT, *.CDX, *.DBC, *.DCT, *.DCX ) are included as part of the exception list in the antivirus. Another related item to watch out for is the use of commands such as PACK -- the antivirus can sometimes interfere in its operation that could cause tables to seemingly disappear (but you end up with what appears like copies of the data that have random-looking filenames).
