The first time I did an appendectomy in the night, I found what felt like a hard orange rather than an inflamed appendix. It was a torted ovarian teratoma with hair and teeth. These days she'll have had a fairly sure ultrasound diagnosis beforehand and a quick endoscopic grab so she can be home a little stiff but cheerful tomorrow. All the best!
