>>And the recent rumblings from the White House about a new gas tax and free education are not the way to go.
>>I agree with that but my reasons and yours probably differ.

The gerontocracy is adept at pulling up ladders after itself. Apart from real estate inflation, consider that US college fees went up 538% since 1985. People complain about medical inflation but that only managed 286% over the same period. Seems to me that those lucky enough to have attended college and taken out a mortgage prior to the 1980s could pay off their mortgage and college debt on their credit card today and still have enough credit to go out for a steak dinner to celebrate- and then claim free Medicare healthcare as a God-given right despite refusing to fund it properly so that those paying off a 6-figure education debt and jumbo mortgage also are expected to cover the $47T unfunded Medicare liability. Just saying.

The proper response IMHO is for the young to borrow to the hilt and then inflict a burst of mega-inflation so that current generations also get to shrug off their debt.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
