>>Tuition has gone up largely through the "Paradox of Subsidies". The more money flowing in, the less the incentives to contain costs.

Incredibly parochial- look outside the US and the ideas fail immediately. E.g. according to the ideology, all those nations where healthcare is almost fully subsizided ought to be more expensive than the US. Nope.

As for education- the reason more people need subsidies for higher education in the US has to include the deadly embrace of employer expectation for a degree and wealth concentration so that most can't afford it. Again, look outside the US, e.g. at European economies where the goal by 2020 is for 40% of the young to achieve a higher education qualification. Why? Because all evidence is that this is the path to innovation, better society and prosperity. Meanwhile in the US, mean-spirited writers compare to flat screen TV purchases and ignore the herd of elephants in the room.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
