you may want to try searching at http://www.codeguru.com/vb/
I did a quick search there using "mail" and it came back with lots of links which I think you may find useful.

Also, at http://www.mcp.com/personal/, there's a book called "MAPI, SAPI, and TAPI Developer's Guide" which you can read online for free. That should be of some help.
