Serbia as a part of Yugoslavia will be counted to the east anyway. From my POV the east starts 5 kilometers away - just the other bank of the river. :)

And this is common. Moroco is counted to the orient. There is not much of the occident that far west. (Hence the arabic Maghreb - west - for that area, only that this starts with Lybia what is a bit in the east)
