>>Given enough money and time, at least potentially, a mechanic can have a 100% success rate.
>>By that standard, the medical profession has a 0% success rate since all patients ultimately die, regardless of the size of the budget.
>>If an MD actually had a success rate that was even half that of the mechanic's instead of pretending to - as many do - then your analogy might hold water.

Please, Mr Sophist. You asked how to respond to what you called "nonsense" ; my answer is that doctors are not the only ones who predict trouble unless remedial action is taken. You might do the same when advising customers about a 1.99GB dbf, though in IT it is unusual for the customer to call your advice nonsense and blame you for the 2GB limit.

>>Asian immigrants clip toenails at minimum wage in nail "salons" all over the country despite the threat of being sued for millions.

I note you ignored the issue of Medicare covering your footcare when it refuses for the vast majority of others. You must be aware of your special circumstance, but if you think you can get your toenails clipped by an Asian immigrant for cheaper or better: that's your call. But don't waste your time trying to sue them if it turns bad- because their cheap lawyer (who still charges more than Medicare pays the podiatrist) need only point out that you were covered by Medicare but chose otherwise, and you're sunk. Which is why the ambulance chasers don't congregate outside nail salons. There's no professional standard or shoulda-woulda-coulda if you're simply clipping toenails for a willing customer who can't or won't do it themselves and is right there directing your performance.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
