Thomas noticed that I was in fact using an old Novell 6 server for the file server. We are actually in the process of setting up a new Linux one to take its place. It very well may be that the samba is way outdated on it and may be the suspect, but I do not believe novell uses samba.

I used Tore's suggestion and put the flush after each write to the two notepad type files in question and today we go the same corruption on both and this time it did not even release on the one.

As for the pack vs. pack memo, it seems the pack alone packs the memo area as well as the whole file removing records marked for deletion as well, whereas the pack memo only packs the memo area and maintains leaving records marked for deletion. Good to know if one wants to pack the memos each day but keep records marked for deletion just in case.

I do notice that some tables I have in production which use memos and are not pounded on as much and are relatively smaller in file size never seem to get corrupt.

I find it odd that someone would take some simple setting changes on samba and offer it up for sale as a product.
