Reminds me of my old Trabant, where you had to know a dozen little tricks how to get this or that done. But the sad thing is that, in most cases, in Windows it's by design. Not necessarily the design by Microsoft, but rather the design of Microsoft...

In other news, I just discovered that the links to articles about M$ or from its former softies perish within a couple of years. There used to be an article, which I remember having read again last year, that's gone 404 just like most of the rest (mostly due to websites' reorganizing their links system). Keeping bookmarks is perhaps useful to point you to site homepages; anything below that is best by soon. In the article that I can't find anymore the guy explained why things aren't fixed in Windows, but rather new ones are built to replace them. Which is why cmd.exe is pretty much the same as 15 years ago (fixing anything won't bring any customers, and it's used too much in the background so nobody wanted to change anything - it's all rust). So we got the scripting host instead etc etc.

Just heard, 2nd or 3rd hand, from a guy who's a tester in Redmond, that when install a windows and opt out of the "send data to Microsoft" - it still sends them. Your having ticked it off is just another datum to send.
