* the frequency of occasions when pronouns are mandatory in english is kind of understandable in conjunction with the verbs, which are completely impersonal, having lost their personal forms centuries ago, but... these possessives throw me off. Who else's hands, who else's back? Why do I have to insert a possessive pronoun even there?
