Another anecdote from "this place".

They use a system (access db ) but developed outside. They want all the data out but the developer is long gone and they are locked out of the data (its a compiled mde with data going into a dat file)

IT want to hire someone to get the data out . They think it'll take weeks and with that IT bunch tying someone up in red tape it will.

I told Finance they could get an off the shelf tool that would get all the data out and I downloaded a demo copy and showed them. Cost about £50.00 but IT won't have it and insist they are not to touch it (and I'm not to touch it either).
