Stopped keeping my mouth shut - but did not start shouting all over the place. My compromize: find a person at the location you think has a balanced view of security hurdles, inform them.

Most places USB ports are closed physically now. But if I am at the location, I usually figure out in 15min how to get access via external, forbidden device.
