>>>>yes but thinking about it we shouldn’t have copies of finance data anywhere apart from live or test servers! you may have to develop “blind” and then ask the DBA team to deploy to UAT for you to test?

>>That's extreme, but people are waking up to the reality that most sensitive data breaches originate with people entrusted with access, not external sneaks. In the US, healthcare Information holders are increasingly paranoid about the possibility of breaches. Just recently, Anthem (huge in US healthcare) had a massive privacy breach involving tens of millions of patients, attributed to a compromised administrator login. Gone or at least going are the days when contractors, administrators or analysts could dip into sensitive data at will...

>>Can they at least give you a test database, even with some anonymized data? If this is their policy, you won't be the first or last to need such a thing.

At one of my earlier jobs that supported an accounting system, one of our customers was a multi-national oil company. One of their (very junior) accounting clerk was most incensed to discover that I could look at Payroll data. She just couldn't understand why I, a contractor) could see this information when she couldn't and she'd been trying to get access to the Payroll system for some time. I finally got tired of listening to her whinging (and trying to look over my shoulder at the data), looked at her and told that the reason why I could see it was because I didn't care. It was all just numbers and words to me and my biggest concern was making sure the numbers got into the correct boxes/fields/tables/etc and attached to the correct words.

I've worked places that gave me access and places that the data was to anonymized that it made no sense at all, especially to someone who's slightly numerically dyslexic. Do you have any idea how similar Testor221 and Testor211 can look?
