Maybe not sinister, but certainly gauche.

A few weeks ago I was called upon to be the lay leader at our Torah service. In the portion for the week was the following

"Israel reached out with his right hand and placed it on Ephraim's head [even though] he was the younger son. He [placed] his left hand on Manasseh's head. He deliberately crossed his hands, even though Manasseh was the firstborn. "

In my commentary I took this and expounded upon the way left and right are treated in language (I used English, French, German, Italian, and Latin). It's been a standard rant of mine for several decades and it was fun to be able to pontificate (strange word for a Jewish service!!!!) in front of the congregation.
