By coincidence, just yesterday I needed to work on something similar. I hadn't used Visio or any other diagramming tool before (some experience with CAD however). I downloaded and installed the open-source Dia program:
http://dia-installer.de/download/index.html.enI went through some of the documentation, which is geared towards a quick start. Spent about half an hour with that. Another hour and I had a decent working diagram (see attached).
