>We have a Life Insurance System done in VFP. It is a system that I would say Data Intensive. The client wanted to convert it into a Client/Server system using either SQL Server or Oracle as the back-end. Is SQL Server 7.0 can now compete with Oracle (Security, Reliability, Scalability) ?? I have work with Oracle before, and I knew how stable it is...

Now that SQL Server 7 has record locking (instead of that darn
page locking) the question of which server should be "what are
you most confortable with". That flaw in SQL Server 6.5 (and
previous versions) made the database unusable for situations
where updating was taking place continuously. (You'd get put
into a queue for hours for even the most simplest of tasks.)
