I took a chance and spent a few bucks for an IOGear KVM box that supports HDMI, and works perfectly.
I have a wireless keyboard/mouse and HDMI monitor that I'm using with 2 laptops and it works exactly the way I'd hoped. I type up to over 100 WPM and I'm not experiencing the slightest of lags. Best $99 I've ever spent.
