The British shows I've watched are Monty Python, Black Adder, Ab Fab, Dr Who, Faulty Towers (which was a bit of a letdown), and that's it.

If you like British comedy, you should definitely try to get your hands on these:

Waiting for God
As Time Does By
The Vicar of Dibley

They are extremely funny and extremely well done.
