Serious question: who has what it takes to address the tough questions like the unfunded Medicare deficit? The longer that whale in the room is ignored, the worse it gets. A cynic might observe that the only candidate prepared to grasp that nettle, is the fictional Frank Underwood. To put it in perspective: the deficit now equates to $150,000 per citizen in the US if it were funded today and invested to allow compound growth to help pay the future bills.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
