Where are the data tables stored? If on one of the XP machines, or a Windows server, it should be fine. If they're stored on a low-end NAS, some of them don't fully support shared file access.

If antivirus is installed you may want to test with real-time file scanning disabled, on all workstations running your program and the server machine where the data files are stored.
