Actually, looking it up, we were nearer 90% here. Don't know if it was 90% darker - probably need a light meter to measure that.
There's a weird quality to the light during an eclipse. Hard to describe but, compared to a normal sunrise/sunset, it may just be due to the fact that you don't get long shadows.
Animal behaviour was also interesting - all the birds stopped flying and became quiet. The chickens on the yard all went back to their roosting places - but, interestingly, were back out within five minutes after the max. They definitely knew before I did that it was getting lighter.
