>>>>I went to Canada once during a Veterans Day weekend, I think, and found that it was Thanksgiving up there. Americans are giving thanks that the Indians didn't let the pilgrims starve at Plymouth Rock. What were Canadians thankful for?

>>>America is a continent not a country.
>>>I mean Dominican, canadians, mexicans, etc. are american too.

>>Actually
North America is the continent of our countries, however I don't describe myself as a North American. :-)

>I could have said U.S. citizens, but that seemed a bit formal. I wasn't aware that people elsewhere in The Americas were prone to call themselves "Americans". I also wasn't sure that people from the Caribbean thought of themselves as a part of the continent. I don't know Spanish, but I gather that some Latin Americans might call us "yanquis", but people from the southern U.S. reject the term "yankee".
I wasn't aware of this either. I've never heard anyone refer to all people in North America as Americans until now. As far as I'm concerned nationality is based on country not continent.
