>>but I have to admit, that was REALLY funny
It was funny- except that MS's failure actually is pretty sad, wrapping Nokia into the downward spiral and not learning from the Blackberry implosion. The market outcome is a single General Motors option for Joe Average (Android) with a Mercedes option (iOS) for those who value brand, with the only other option being the Edsel. Cozy duopoly may be OK for Google and Apple but by definition is not good for we consumers. Google feels its power and already is pushing hard on privacy IMHO and is losing/has lost its adolescent geeky look in favor of age-old Corporate self-protectionism. The problem now is that it's not easy to vote with your feet, especially when you're on a 2-year contract and the telephony supplier chooses the phone. So here we go again.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
