>Possible. In the SSCM the item in the left pane says " SQL Server Services" and the items in the right pane say "SQL Server (SQLEXPRES)". Are you saying that the "SQLEXPRES" is the name of the service and not SQL Server?

Yes. My SSCM says "SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)".- I use the full system.
On the SSMS, however, I see "BILL_PC(SQL Server 11.0.2100.. etc)
As I see it, that is actually the name of the instance of the server that I'm using.
So ..
there is a service
there is a server
there is an instance of a server.
When I want to connect to SQL Server from VS, for example, I connect to BILL_PC. That is the server name.
The service has to be running or nothing will work.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
