>Just as a side note (as it unrelated to what you're encountering) -- some of my coworkers discovered by accident that some features (such as desktop sharing) in Skype don't work as expected if you install the "Metro" edition for Windows 8 (most likely because of sandboxing). Uninstalling the "Metro" version and installing the "classic" desktop edition corrected the problem for them.
