>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>Windows 10 is the "last version" only in terms of MS not building a new OS every few years and selling it as a complete, shrink wrapped, packaged OS. It is the "last version" in name only. Instead of making a new Windows version every few years, Windows 10 will continue to be developed on a continuous basis and updates released via Windows Update or some other similar mechanism. This makes business sense because MS move away from trying to convince users to buy a new OS every 3 or 4 years (which gets progressively harder to do) to getting them to pay an automatic annual subscription fee for continuous updates much like subscribing to AV or similar services. They move from selling a product to selling a service.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>And because of the above, the conclusion you make that FoxPro "will continue to work for a very long time ..." is therefore debatable. If the OS will be continuously developed/enhanced/changed one cannot guarantee that FoxPro will continue to be supported or work. And because the OS will be continuously developed/enhanced/changed it is the "last version" in name only, not in actuality.

>>>That may or may not be so. I hope so for all VFP application owners. But your guarantees to that effect are not worth anything and the statement that Windows 10 is the last version of Windows is incorrect except in marketing-name only.

The great general comes visiting. Military personal will clean up. This includes painting the tyres black. Straight over the dirt. (no function, does harm to the tyre, looks better)
Two days later the paint will chip and the dirt will remain.
To overstate they paint the grass too.

MS people had some hard weeks to hush over each and anything to bring it in line with WIN 10 blabla. But just on surface, as usual.
WIN 8? Simple advice
People reject it because it's not usable interface. (While everybody understand this system on an Android or a rotten fruit it's complet no go on desktop)
You install classic shell and people feel home. Metro Screen? To be ignored. Puke if one setting screen has this surface because of an interface that is fine on a tiny smart phone with finger navigation but not one a multiwindow desktop.

Conclusion: Nobody needs this interface, nobody likes to waste time to learn it (99,99% of all people use computer as a tool, they have other problems then surface changes)
Following MS for a long time we have seen this and that coming and going, why spend time to changing surfcae problems of a dead language that is mainly used for solutions users a pleased an effective with? There are masks out as ugly as VT100 but people are quick with it. That's what count, not some Redmont design guides.

APPX it black over the dirt. Same failure as with every new system they brought up.
If one realy need it, one start with appropriate tools. From scratch.
