>>Early this morning my Gmail account got hacked - according to Google, it came from Tysons Corner, Virginia

What was the hack? Keylogger stole your password at an airport or other public machine, you used an unsecured wifi somewhere, or password too easy?

FWIW, the commonly recommended character replacement => "hell0" or "Un1v3rs4l" in 2015 is easily hacked and not good practice despite what still gets said. Much more difficult is a combination of words with an unexpected Caps character and at least one unexpected symbol. A 15-character password with unpredictable characters and symbols remains fearfully difficult to hack. Also watch out for unsecured public wifi popping up everywhere. Phones are a particular problem since simply walking past a Starbucks could cause your gmail to poll your inbox across the unsecured wifi so any nasty ratbag in range can sniff your credentials.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
