John,

Just thinking out loud. . .

Two similar, if not identical, machines! No doubt they have the same video adapter and video software.

ASSUMING that it ran successfully before you deployed, one would guess that it was on a different genus of hardware or, possibly, similar hardware but with differing video adapter or driver(s).

Anywaym that would be one legitimate area of suspicion.

Good Luck,

Jim N

>We have recently attempted to upgrade a large VFP 5.0 run-time application to 6.0 and have had very bad results.

>The original 5.0 application runs in 150 locations in the US and UK. The 6.0 upgrade is basically just a re-compile of the existing projects under 6.0. We have installed VS SP1.

>The setup wizard was used to create the upgrade and was distributed on CD to 2 test locations. The upgrade replaces the existing 5.0 EXE's with 6.0 EXE's.

>One note: hard drive light comes on and stays lit constantly, but only occasionally can it be heard actually moving.
>Same behavior on changing pages of a pageframe. This is the most common symptom.

>3. Blue screen, "Error writing to drive c: Data may be lost.". 1 occurrence.

>These behaviors are not consistent. The systems will sometimes function normally for 1 - 2 hours, but will eventually exhibit above problems.

>The two machines in question are Dell Optiplex Pentiums with 32 Mg RAM which have run the 5.0 system flawlessly for the last year and a half. They are not located in the same facility.

>If anyone has any ideas, I am dying to hear them. If I cannot come up with something quickly, I will have to pull the plug on our entire migration and stick with 5.0.

>Thanks, John
