Well, I agree that they *should* be the primary source, but I find them pretty lacking. I did learn VFP using the manuals (I didn't buy any other books), but it was not at all easy, and I was already well-versed in FPW 2.6. Obviously, the manuals will not be able to exaplain every possiblity for making use of controls, but I found that there were very basic things that weren't covered at all, that I had to learn just through trial-and-error. Lord knows how long it would have taken if I didn't have access to the MS Knowledge Base and forums like this.

Also, I think they are not well written. They do not do a good job of organizing information contextually so that you know what they're talking about at any given time, and there is usually a lot of vague language that you can't understand until you've already learned what it is they are trying to teach you. I give them a C-. :)

OK, enough venting for one day. Back to work.
