I notice nobody really commented on my other point about phones, that most web apps run with full features on a desktop browser but only limited features on mobile versions.

I would add that if anyone thinks users are knowledgable enough to know that phones are really only for reporting etc and not suitable for data entry has never addressed a group of basic users.
