John,

Thanks for recalling how this community behaved in the early days.

Strengthens my conviction that today there are too many adjutants ruling here, prompt to reject anything new - ideas, people, products - except those approved by some official source such as a large vendor, a newspaper, or a great web site.

In my opinion, lack of freedom of thoughts, mutual respect, and humility.

In that forum, the question was ignored by most and those who answered provided helpful pointers for the person to educate themselves rather than exhortations to smarten up.

>Which IMHO has been a hallmark of the VFP community. Mutual respect seemed to become entrenched in the Compuserve days when Dr Dave, Lisa Slater and Mike Beane put on a great show for people who loved their tool. The mutual respect continued as new Visual Flavors of the Day came and went with practitioner forums often scenes of frustration and lashing out AFAICS. When curtness pops up, almost always the source is somebody who has moved onto greener fields where taunts may be normalized. Certainly there's validity to the attitude that sticks and stones don't break bones when hurled by an online persona, but must say I prefer the VFP way.

>In this case, a question about Win10 is a lot trickier IMHO because it's still in preview and things are up in the air. In my case, numerous PCs offer free Win10, but IME TANSTAAFL and I want to know now what the cost will be. Will subscription fees be introduced later, or will connectivity become compulsory as attempted with Xbox one, or what am I signing up for? What about Samba? What other dependencies or unforeseen gotchas on the first occasion MS ever offered me free OS? Now I see that the Samba issue is raised in Profox where it's quite important for those members. Lots going on here and would be good to discuss from a VFP perspective IMHO. Otherwise IMHO there will be many who aren't willing cheerfully to put their head into the noose to see what will happen next.
